One of our neighbours was cutting down a tree yesterday and a huge chunk of the tree fell on his roof. It did a pile of damage, including structural damage. What a mess! Most people would think this was a real tragedy. My neighbour, however, sees it differently.
“Look,” he said, “no one was hurt and my family are all okay. A roof I can fix, but if one of my family was badly hurt I might not be able to fix that.” His great attitude reminded me once again that the hand we get dealt in life is sometimes out of our hands but the way we play the hand is all up to us.
I was and am grateful for his wonderful, wise attitude. It reminded me that there is usually a blessing somewhere in the problems we face. I feel blessed to have been so reminded.
